The Divine Abodes, or brahmavihāra, are ancient Buddhist heart meditations and practices that can reveal and awaken our deepest nature’s heart qualities.

Buddha's Heart: Meditation Practices for Developing Well-Being, Love, and Empathy

“The Presence of the Absolute has a medium, a felt perception, of fulfilled love. Fulfilled love is the inner quality, the aliveness, the tenderness, the strength that infuses and animates all life. This means that everything we can see, hear, or touch is composed of this profoundly satisfying love. When we are awakened to this love, and in ongoing contact with it, our hearts will be authentically affected. This inclusive love is the deeply welcoming acceptance of the Presence. Sustained contact with universal love begins the journey of quenching our yearning. It satisfies our inner hunger, our heart’s deepest ache and longing.

It is through sustained connection with the Presence of the Absolute that our lifelong heart ache feels seen and rests in ease. As our connection with the Presence deepens and becomes sustaining, we loosen our grip on our identification with the heart’s ache, and our compulsive behaviors relax. Our self-definition shifts to the Presence as our core identity. With sustained contact with the love of the Presence, our personality’s foundation begins to shift from the heart’s ache to the infinite love of the Presence—our true, authentic identity. The true identity of the Presence is your birthright.

This is why learning, practicing, and integrating the deep heart meditations in this book are so vital to our spiritual maturation. Each meditation opens a different quality of our true nature in our heart while deepening contact and connection with the Presence of the Absolute.”
